Description

Black sesame seeds tastes good and is excellent for health.

Ayurvedic Note

1) This is considered as rasyana (rejuvenative).
2) Reduces vata and normalises pitta and increases kapha.
3) Traditionally, lactating mothers in India are given black sesame seed balls.
4) Generally sesame decoction is given to correct menstrual disorders.
5) Consumption of sesame seed balls is good for women of all ages.
6) This is an ideal food for consumption during travelling as vata increases.

Note

1) Coconut bits gives a nice crunchy bite to the sesame balls. Cut into very tiny bits.
2) Picking stones from sesame seeds is important .
3) Has shelf life of atleast 1 month.

1.25  CupsSesame seeds, black
1  CupJaggery grated / powdered
1  Tbsp.Ghee (clarified butter)
2  Tbsp.Coconut bits
0.25  Tsp.Cardamom powder
1  Tsp.Dry ginger powder

Method

1) Pick, clean and wash sesame seeds.
2) Heat ghee and fry coconut bits till light brown and crunchy. Remove coconut and keep aside.
3) Heat jaggery and cook till it melts and form one string consistency. Remove and strain for impurities.
4) Dry roast (without oil) sesame seeds on a slow fire till it starts spluttering.
5) Add jaggery to the sesame seed mixture. Mix well. Add in ghee, coconut, dry ginger powder and cardamom powder.
6) Remove the mixture from fire. Keep aside to cool lightly.
7) Wet your hands with little water. Shape the mixture into small balls.
8) Cool completely before storing in airtight containers.
