In Kerala,chammanthy is a small side dish usually eaten with normal rice meals or with kanji(rice gruel). It gives a pep to even a bland meal. And in case of indigestion or a fever, this is excellent to whet your appetite.
1) The addition of tamarind gives a slight unappealing look to this relish. So tamarind can be substituted witha tiny bit of mango.
2) This can be ground in a blender, but that may require the addition of little water. You can alternately use a mortar and pestle.

1) Grind all the ingredients together with as little water as possible.
Serve with rice or with kanji(rice gruel).
